About the Exhibit

The exhibit, Gender Perspectives in Photography: The Myra Morton Miller and Gustav Meier Johnson Collections, was prepared using the resources of the State Archives, a program of the South Dakota State Historical Society.

Because of some similarities in subject matter reflected in both photograph collections, selecting photographs for this exhibition involved subjective choices. As a result, the exhibit concentrates on the differences in the collections and not the similarities.

Caption information within quotation marks is taken directly from the original transcriptions on the photograph.  General explanatory captions were added in brackets when original captions were incomplete or missing.

The images were scanned at 300 dpi using an Vissioneer Paperport 6100  scanner then manipulated using PhotoShop6 software. FrontPage 2002 software was used to create the web pages for the exhibit.

Exhibit design and creation: LaVera Rose, Librarian.

Web page graphics: George Stowers, Graphics Designer, Dept. of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Exhibit mounted March 2003.
