The concepts and ideologies put forth through photographs have a direct correlation to the issues and beliefs of the culture in which the work was produced.  Any issue portrayed is then a statement toward that society's views.

This exhibit will focus on the photography of Myra Morton Miller and Gustav Johnson during the early part of the 20th Century.  By looking at the cultural, political, and personal uses of the camera by these two photographers we will see the role that gender played in the production of their work.  Following are some questions that may arise from viewing the exhibit:

Ø      Why did the photographer take this photo?

Ø      What are the differences between the two sets of photographs?

Ø      What were the roles of men and women in the images?

Ø      Have the roles of men and women changed since the images were taken? How? Why?

Ø      What overall picture of the time period was given by these images?

Ø      What does the overall picture tell us about central conceptions in our own culture, primarily with respect to gender?
