Historic Preservation Areas In order to provide the best possible service to the public, the state has been divided into three geographic areas with a historic preservation specialist assigned to each area. These historic preservation specialists are responsible for historic preservation matters such as the State and National Registers of Historic Places, survey and inventory, and certified local governments. Historic preservation issues and questions concerning historical markers should be directed to the specialist assigned to the appropriate geographic area. If the specialist for your area is unavailable, feel free to visit with one of the other historic preservation specialists.
