William John Bulow

Governor Bulow was a state Senator during the
1899 session. He started his term as governor by vetoing the
appropriations bill in 1927. Major issues during his governorship included the
state revenue and budget, and tax-financed farm relief. He also served as a United States Senator from
1932 to 1942. Following his term as governor, he later worked with a law firm in
Washington D.C.

Governor Bulow’s mother, it is satirical in nature and describes the origins
of Smithfield Ham; authorship of the letter is uncertain although it is
attributed to Governor Bulow.
