Richard F. Kneip

Minnesota
Death: March 9, 1987; Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Governor Kneip was the first governor to serve
more than two terms and the fourth democratic governor. Indian-White relations,
tax reform, aid to education, highway construction, and water development were
major issues during his governorship. He carried out a major reorganization of
State government. He resigned on July 24, 1978 during his eighth year as
governor to serve as ambassador to Singapore. In 1980 he resigned the
ambassadorship and returned to South Dakota. The official administrative records
