- Red Cloud Agency
- (See also Pine Ridge Agency and Upper Platte Agency)
Red Cloud Agency was established in 1871 on the
North Platte River near Fort Laramie in Wyoming. It was mainly responsible for the Oglala
Lakota in addition to some Cheyenne and Arapaho people. Prior to 1871 correspondence
relating to these people was filed with the Upper Platte Agency. In 1878, after moving
several times, the agency settled at White Clay Creek in Dakota and was renamed Pine Ridge
Agency.
