Minnesota Superintendency The superintendency was created in 1849 when
Minnesota Territory was organized. It included the eastern part of present day North and
South Dakota. The St. Peters Agency oversaw the Mdewakanton, Wahpetkute, Sisseton, and
Wahpeton people in Minnesota. The Minnesota Superintendency was discontinued in 1856 and
the St. Peters Agency was transferred to the Northern Superintendency.
