ACTIVITIES

The Clay County
Historic Preservation Commission (CCHPC) participates in Historic
Preservation Week by giving tours of historic districts and buildings on the
National Register of Historic Places and has an annual Historic Preservation
Awards Ceremony in which they give awards in the following categories:
Preservationist of the Year, Organization of the Year, urban residential,
rural residential, agricultural, commercial, and misc. /other. The awards
are presented at a county commission meeting by the chairman of the county
commissioners.
They issue two
newsletters each year (spring and fall) and have a booth at the annual
Dalesburg Festival every June. They also participate in the NRHP plaque
program, by which owners of qualifying structures can apply for assistance
to purchase plaques for CCHPC installation on their properties. The
commission also gets involved in reviewing and providing comment on
construction projects within historic districts in Vermillion. In recent
years, the CCHPC has also been active in preparation of a historic
preservation plan for Clay County and a streetscape plan for the downtown
Vermillion Historic District. |
