The Lake County Historical Society operates the
Smith-Zimmerman Museum, which was once among the state museums, and
publishes a newsletter, the Heritage Herald, four times per year. The group
currently boasts over 200 members located in many parts of the country.
Ongoing activities include hosting Brown-Bag Lunch
gatherings and ethnic cooking demonstrations in the museum. Students from
Lake County Schools are invited for activities each year, including a
presentation on the Industrial Revolution. An open members meeting is held
in November of each year.
The museum includes a wide variety of artifacts
concerning the history of Lake County and the cities of Madison, Winfred,
Chester, Ramona, Nunda, and Wentworth.
Recent activities include supporting Nunda’s centennial
celebration in the summer of 2007. In 2006, the LCHS hosted, in partnership
with Dakota State University, the Great Plains Chautauqua. |
