ACTIVITIES

The purpose of the group is to study and record the history and development of Minnehaha County, to mark and preserve historical buildings and sites across the county, and to educate its members and the public on the rich heritage of the people and land of Minnehaha County.

There are monthly meetings on county, state, and national historical topics. Six to eight historical marker dedication ceremonies are held each year and bus trips to visit historical sites. The society is sponsor of a fall antique show fundraiser. Other activities include sponsoring a book recording the nearly 200 historical markers which have been placed, and a book recording information about the rural schools in Minnehaha County. A Historic Sculpture Committee has been formed and will place sculptures of county historical persons as a new project. The society gives programs on local history for public classrooms and civic groups as requested. Historical bus trips are provided.

The 200 members receive a monthly newsletter that informs them of program topics and historical information concerning county sister organizations. There is a membership fee.
