FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 3, 2007 Cultural Heritage Center offering American Indians discount in October PIERRE, S.D. – Native American Day is Monday, Oct. 8, in South Dakota and in recognition of their contributions to our society, American Indians are being offered a reduced admission fee to the museum in the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center throughout October. American Indians need only to show their tribal identification cards at the admissions desk and they will get $1 taken off the price of an adult admission. “We hope our American Indian friends take advantage of this reduced admission fee,” said Jay D. Vogt, director of the South Dakota State Historical Society, headquartered in the Cultural Heritage Center. “They have played an important role in our state’s history, from before the arrival of Europeans in the 1700’s right through today.” American Indian history and culture is highlighted in the exhibit Oyate Tawicoh’an, which means “The Ways of the People.” The exhibit includes Indian artifacts and beadwork, a full-size mounted buffalo, a tipi and the Sioux Horse Effigy dance stick that is the symbol of the State Historical Society. The museum in the Cultural Heritage Center is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Sundays and most holidays, including Native American Day, from 1-4:30 p.m. For more information call (605) 773-6000 or visit www.sdhistory.org |
