July 3, 2008 Cultural Heritage Center invites visitors for holiday weekend PIERRE, S.D. – Local and area residents and their guests are encouraged to visit the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center over the Fourth of July weekend. The museum, located northeast of the state Capitol at 900 Governors Drive, is open 1-4:30 p.m. on Friday. All other South Dakota State Historical Society offices in the center are closed for the Fourth of July holiday. The museum is open 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, and because it’s the first Saturday of the month, the State Archives research room is open from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The museum is also open 1-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, and since it’s the first Sunday of the month, the admission is free. “It’s going to be a hot weekend,” said Jay D. Vogt, director of the South Dakota State Historical Society, headquartered at the Cultural Heritage Center. “We invite people to come into our 68-degree environment and see all the cool things we have representing South Dakota history.” |
