March 7, 2008 Cultural Heritage Center hosting ‘Deliver the Vote’ author PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota State Historical Society will host Tracy Campbell, author of “Delivering the Vote: A History of Election Fraud, an American Political Tradition – 1742-2004,” on Tuesday, March 11, at the Cultural Heritage Center. Campbell’s free presentation and book signing begins at noon in the center’s education room. In his book, Campbell describes the ways in which he believes political culture is diminished by election corruption, citing such practices as ballot stuffing, voter intimidation and returns manipulation, while explaining how election reform practices have only changed the methods through which corruption occurs. Campbell was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for “The Politics of Despair: Power and Resistance in the Tobacco Wars.” He also authored “Short of Glory: The Fall and Redemption of Edward F. Prichard, Jr.” Campbell, co-director of the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center at the University of Kentucky, specializes in the social and political history of the United States. He is the Visiting McGovern Scholar this semester at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell.
